Smiles on Sunny Nunny continued...

"The queues that we have all seen today, with families bursting to get in before we cut the ribbon, shows how much support we have been getting."

"It is simply tremendous."

One of the centre's highlights was receiving £100,000 lottery grant five years ago - a cash boost that enabled the creation of a new children's playground.

Mandy Rhoades' children, Jack (five) and Corey (four) were in their element as they played on a Flintstones giant inflatable slide.

Mrs Rhoades, of Kirkstead Crescent, said: "It is a really good day out for the family and I am glad they have organised it - my children are loving it."

Grimsby couple John and Leanne Probert, of Crosby Road, were there with their four children, nine-year-olds Hollie and Charlie and Fern (six), who attend Laceby Acres Primary School, and Leah (12) who goes to Hereford.

Mrs Probert said: "It is nice for the kids to see this - something positive - rather than joyriders on our street."

And she agreed that the centre had enriched the community since its conception.

"It has provided everything. It is nice for the kids to go there instead of being stuck in the house."

It was not just families who were revelling in the day's festivities, the police were also out in force to offer their support.

Special PCs for Grimsby Central, Tracey North and Jeanette Hopkins, mounted the bucking bronco ride - which rocks the contender back and forth in a test of balance and co-ordination.

Spc North said: "We are showing that we are human and normal, just like everybody else - that is really important."

"The Resource Centre is a really good thing for the community - we come along and liaise with residents and get to know about community issues."
