Carelink

 

Carelink is a charitable organisation that installs and monitors lifeline alarm units.  Carelinks trained staff are available to answer your alarm call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.  You will be provided with a lifeline alarm which is connected to your telephone and a portable alarm button which you can wear round your neck or on a wrist strap.

 Community Learning Service 

 Community Learning Service provide various courses from Second Avenue Resource Centre such as Numeracy, Literacy, Computers for Beginners, Childcare qualifications, Teaching assistant course and much more.  See Second Avenues activity sheet on 'What's Going On' page for what is currently running or contact us on the number below.

Cancer Team

 

The 'Early Presentation of Cancer Symptoms Programme' aims to help people to recognise early symptoms of cancer and seek help.  Early detection saves lives. Survival rates from most cancers are getting better and better.

 

The programme works with community volunteers to raise awareness of the symptoms of bowel, prostate, cervical and ovarian cancer, as well as the bowel and cervical screening programmes.

Older Peoples Health and Wellbeing

 

 

 The Older People’s Health & Wellbeing Programme works in partnership with other agencies to assist older people in improving their health & wellbeing.  Community teams use a combination of a community-led social marketing and a collaborative approach to address issues such as reducing social isolation, fear of crime, and giving older people opportunities to access a healthier lifestyle, such as Tai Chi and WalkWell. Twelve weekly social clubs take place in North East Lincolnshire at a variety of locations. 

 

A social club is held here at Second Avenue Resource Centre every Tuesday 1:30pm.  All are welcome.

 CHD Collaborative
The Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) collaborative has been established to help raise awareness of CHD within North East Lincolnshire.  The team is supported by volunteers in the community and aims to encourage people into taking action to prevent the disease and minimise its impact.   

 

The team also promote screening activities at events, such as blood pressure checks and subsequent GP referrals, so that residents can access appropriate and responsive health services.

Skin Health Collaborative

 

 

 The Speak Out For Skin social marketing campaign is part of the Skin Health Collaborative Programme in North East Lincolnshire. It focuses on raising awareness of tissue viability and encouraging people to present early symptoms to their nurse or GP, such as sores and dry patches that won’t heal.

 

The team also promote existing services for skin issues and ‘nudge’ people to access them, using a social marketing structure and community team campaigns.

 Lung and Throat Cancer Collaborative

As part of the cancer collaborative team, the Lung Collaborative aims to promote early presentation and diagnosis of lung cancer. Our main message is that if you have a persistent cough for 3 weeks or longer, see your GP to get it checked out.

 

We also aim to raise awareness of the early symptoms of laryngeal (throat) cancer, such as a sore throat, a change/hoarseness in your voice, difficulty swallowing, or the feeling of something being stuck in the throat. Any of these symptoms lasting more than a few weeks should be checked by a GP.

 Employment Support Keyworker

  Employment support keyworkers act as a mentor that help you on your journey towards employment, provide support and encouragement and give you all the information you need to get back into work.  You will be given help to access services which will aid you addressing barriers you may have to work which include:

 

Being a carer, Offending, Money management problems, Drug and alcohol misuse, Physical, emotional and mental issues and Housing and transport concerns.
